One Fairchild Street

London, UK

The site comprises a parcel of land located in the London Borough of Hackney, close to the borough boundaries with Tower Hamlets to the east and the City of London to the south.

The landscape design comprises public realm on the ground floor, roof terrace gardens and balconies in the proposed new building. Whilst the roof terrace gardens and balconies will serve the building’s tenants and their guests, the ground floor landscape is expected to become an integral part of the public realm in Hackney, providing valuable streetscape and amenity space to the local community.

At Fairchild Street, large planters with integrated seating are proposed along the south side of the street. Facing the building, seating under the tree canopies will invite moments of rest within the busy pedestrian throughway. Trees with a clear stem height of 2m+ are proposed to allow full visibility and movement under tree canopies.

The building forecourt will be the main entrance from the street into the building and into the Viaduct garden. Multi-stem street trees will signal the threshold between Shoreditch High Street and the building forecourt. These trees will also provide the landscape setting to frame the main views to and from the building entrance.

The garden under the arches will accommodate high numbers of pedestrians during peak commuter times and also feel calm and welcoming during quieter periods. The space will be open and level to allow free pedestrian circulation and accommodate the footfall demands, and to allow other temporary uses as well.
